McDonald's is introducing a new dipping sauce to its menu - but there is a catch for some fast-food lovers. Starting next week, on April 27, customers who order through the app will be able to get Big Mac sauce in a dip cup from participating restaurants.
The dipping cups will feature retro blue and silver packaging inspired by the original Big Mac sandwich wraps. A McDonald's spokesperson said: "The Big Mac has been an icon on the McDonald’s menu since it first debuted nationally in 1968, after an Owner/Operator in Pittsburg, PA came up with the idea for a double burger sandwich.
"And the fandom for the Big Mac has only grown with time... expanding to menus across the globe, creating social media craze when 10,000 bottles of Big Mac sauce were given away in the US in 2017, and who could forget the classic 'two all-beef patties...' jingle we’re all still singing?
"This creamy, tangy, slightly sweet and perfectly dippable sauce will be available at no extra charge with any purchase of Chicken McNuggets.
"It can also be ordered a la carte to pair with all your go-to McDonald’s menu items, because let’s be real... a sauce this iconic should go on everything."
Unfortunately for UK customers, the sauce will only be available at participating restaurants across the US.
But there's hope it could be brought to the UK in the future.
It comes after the fast-food chain changed the ingredients it uses to make its burgers - with the promise they'll taste better for it.
They removed artificial preservatives, artificial flavours and added colours from artificial sources used in its burgers.
This means its hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, McDouble, quarter pounder with cheese, double quarter pounder with cheese and Big Mac will all have a new taste.
These ingredient changes affect all 14,000 American restaurants, as the company strives to "help customers feel good about the food they're enjoying".
Chris Kempczinski, McDonald's USA president said: "From switching to 100 percent fresh beef* in our quarter-pound burgers, cooked right when ordered, to removing artificial preservatives in our chicken McNuggets, and committing to cage-free eggs by 2025, we have made significant strides in evolving the quality of our food.
"We know quality choices are important to our customers, and this latest positive change to our classic burgers demonstrates our committed journey to leading with the customer and building a better McDonald’s."
To achieve this change, artificial preservatives were removed from McDonald’s real American cheese, Big Mac special sauce, the regular bun, the quarter pounder bun (also known as the sesame seed bun), and the Big Mac bun.
