Rangers legend Ally McCoist says the club should have appointed Frank Lampard as manager, drawing comparisons between the Englishman and Steven Gerrard.
Lampard has excelled at Coventry City since his appointment in November of last year.
The 46-year-old went into the club with them teetering at the bottom of the English Championship. In a drastic improvement a few months on, they are now in contention to finish the season in a promotion playoff place.
McCoist believes, at some point, the Englishman should have been given the opportunity to take charge at Ibrox: "Rangers should have gone for Frank Lampard before he went to Coventry," he said (talkSport BET).

"I’ve said this for a while, and I think he could’ve been like Steven Gerrard in the way that they come to the club with the hunger to succeed, as I always felt that he was overly criticised for some of the results at his previous jobs, he looks to have found his feet."
McCoist's claims come not long after Philippe Clement departed his post as Rangers manager.
The Belgian lasted 16 months in Glasgow before his sacking, with a 2-0 defeat at home to St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership proving to be the final straw.
While Rangers might have missed the boat with Lampard, they will look to appoint a permanent successor to Clement in the summer.
The looming takeover from 49ers Enterprises presents fans with a cause for enthusiasm after what has been, on the whole, a disappointing season so far.
