McCoist: Atmosphere won't throw Liverpool off their stride

ALLY McCOIST insists that the Liverpool players won’t be spooked by the boisterous atmosphere at Ibrox tomorrow night – but the Rangers great believes the crowd can play a huge part in spurring Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side on.

Ibrox will play host to a Champions League fixture between the two teams and McCoist expects a raucous evening in Govan.

Rangers’ home support played an important role in the run to last season’s Europa League final, often throwing opposition players off their stride on European nights in Glasgow’s south side.

McCoist thinks that Jurgen Klopp’s men will be able to cope with the atmosphere just fine but he also believes that the fans can act as something of a twelfth man for Rangers against the English giants.

“Rangers need to get it into the box and the fans are important,” McCoist said. “Last season there were games in Europe where you could see the visiting players being impacted by the fans.

“Liverpool won’t be like that as they are used to it, but it will help the Rangers players.

“Last season against Dortmund and Leipzig were ridiculous at Ibrox. The players will want to get out the traps, put some pressure on and lift the crowd.”

Ally McCoist was speaking at the launch of William Hill’s newly transformed, state-of-the-art shop on Gordon Street, Glasgow.
