Mbeumo and Toney help Brentford to historic win with Eriksen pivotal in Chelsea drubbing

Yesterday was an unforgettable day in Brentford's history as they came from 1-0 down to beat Chelsea 1-4 at Stamford Bridge. A second successive league defeat appeared to be on the cards when Antonio Rudiger unleashed a long-range effort from distance early in the second half which David Raya ultimately could do nothing about.

However, the Bees showed immense resilience to record a historic victory, with Vitaly Janelt equalising only two minutes after the German's opener. It got even better when Christian Eriksen gave the Bees the lead for the first time four minutes to spark delirious scenes amongst 3,000 Brentford fans who made the short trip over to SW6.

Janelt got his second of the game with a delicate chip over Edouard Mendy, before substitute Yoane Wissa sealed it once and for all with a well-hit effort into the bottom right corner after Chelsea failed to clear a Brentford set-piece in the penalty area. Brentford reporter Uzzi Majid takes a look at some of the talking points from a pulsating victory over the Blues.

Excellent first half performance

Brentford delivered a superb first half performance and were unfortunate not to get onto the scoresheet before their second half revival. Ivan Toney was presented with a gift of a pass by Mendy, only to have too much power on his shot before being denied by the Blues keeper at his near post.

Chelsea rarely threatened in the first half although Raya denied Hakim Ziyech towards the end of the first half, with the Spaniard superbly tipping over the Moroccan's effort. It was a half that Thomas Frank would have been equally delighted with - a lot more so than his opposite number.

The Mbeumo and Toney show

Neither Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney got on the scoresheet at Stamford Bridge, but both delivered top performances and contributed at the right time. Mbeumo supplied Vitaly Janelt to bring the Bees back into the contest, before assisting Eriksen's finish with a well-timed cross for the Dane to give the Bees the lead at Stamford Bridge.

Toney will felt he should have been on the scoresheet, but the striker's all-round performance was immaculate. He was a nuisance for the Chelsea defence, and ended up playing one of the most simple yet incredible passes to pick out Janelt to get his second of the contest and put Brentford in dreamland. Both were incredible and will be looking to cause West Ham problems next Sunday.

Classy Christian Eriksen

It was a day to remember for Christian Eriksen. The Dane has been a revelation for the Bees since he arrived back in January, and his performance reminded many why he is so integral to Thomas Frank's side. He was badly missed in the defeat at Leicester a fortnight ago, but he was immense yesterday and drove the Bees forward on the attack.

He was rewarded with a goal to put the Bees in front, much to the delight of Frank, his staff and 3,000 Bees fans! Keeping him will be Brentford's biggest challenge come the summer transfer window, with many others enquiring about his availability. The main positive is that Brentford do have him until the end of the season, and Frank will hope his stay in West London can be prolonged a bit more further.

Relishing the challenges to come

Many Brentford fans admittedly would have called this game a write-off, with regards to how many points the Bees could have picked up during April. However, the euphoria of yesterday's victory will give Frank and the players a newfound belief that the Bees can beat anyone between now and the end of the season.

Brentford welcome Champions League chasing West Ham back to TW8 next week, before a trip to relegation threatened Watford and another mouth-watering derby against Tottenham Hotspur at home, who like the Hammers, are also chasing a place in Europe's biggest competition. Frank and the players will certainly welcome the chase.
