Dramatic footage on social media has shown the moment terrified diners were forced to flee a central London restaurant after a fire broke out on Friday evening.

In the footage on social media, flames are seen engulfing what is believed to be the MNKY HSE restaurant in Mayfair.

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said they were called at 9.40pm to the blaze at the Dover Street establishment.

The LFB added: “Christmas decorations inside the building were alight and had been extinguished before firefighters arrived.

“Around 300 people were evacuated by on-site staff and crews carried out a systematic search of the property to ensure no one was inside on arrival. A man and a woman were treated on scene by London Ambulance Service crews.”

The fire was put out by 10.18pm by up to 35 firefighters, the LFB said.

Two were treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service and an investigation is now underway to establish the cause of the blaze.
