Maya Jama slams 'crooked teeth cussers' as she wins 'best smile'

Maya Jama has been left amused by her recent award as the World's Most Attractive and Impressive Smile, and has hit out at her haters too.

The Love Island host, originally from Bristol, discovered she had won a vote run by YouTuber Dr Catrise Austin-Veneer on social media and shared it to her own Instagram followers.

Austin-Veneer is a US-based beauty, cosmetic and personal care influencer who posts dental advice to her Instagram account having helped celebrities with their teeth over the years.

"But listen, it's more than just the teeth," said Austin-Veneer, in an Instagram story congratulating Maya and Harry Styles for their "most attractive and impressive" smiles.

"For a striking smile, the proportions of the teeth has to harmonise with the entire face."

Maya, who has gone from strength to strength in recent years, landing the presenter spot for the current series of Love Island, appeared amused to have one the award, but not for the reason you might expect.

Instead of thanking the American dentist expert for the compliment, she instead called back to previous abuse she has suffered on social media.

"This is crazy cause people was cussing my crooked teeth a min ago," she said.

Elsewhere, Maya recently spilled the beans on an embarrassing story from her days working as a Radio One DJ. According to the Mirror, she wore a mermaid costume to a Halloween party the night before work and, despite only having half an hour's sleep, still made it into the office for a shift at the studio.

She said: "I drink loads of pints. Cider. I’m from Bristol. I don’t really get hangovers. Not properly. I get tired.”

The star went on to reveal details of the mermaid costume incident which saw some reaction from the 'BBC news people'.

She said: “I didn’t change out of my Halloween costume and I went straight into radio the next day.

“I had about half an hour of sleep. It was a shell-t**ted mermaid costume with a big, long glittery tail and green dreadlocks and I had loads of stuff on my face... walking through the BBC at 8am with all the BBC news people like, ‘What the f*** is going on here?’.”
