Love Island viewers have branded host Maya Jama’s banter with Omar Nyame, a close friend of her ex-boyfriend Stormzy, “awkward” during Monday night’s final.
As the dumped Islanders gathered to watch Mimii Ngulube and Josh Oyinsan win the series, Jama, who recently split from the rapper a year after rekindling their relationship, engaged in playful banter with Nyame.
The 29-year-old teased him about his "Get Ready With Me" videos on Instagram, adding a touch of humour to the evening's events.
Omar, often seen with Stormzy on social media, took the teasing in stride, keeping the atmosphere light.
She quipped: “There's a lot of underwear situation going on, you're naked on the gram quite often. Is that your new thirst trap technique?”
He replied with a smile: “Do you know what, at the end of the day my body's good so I gotta show it.”
Despite the light-hearted exchange, fans of the ITV2 took to social media to brand the moment as “awkward” following her recent split from his pal.
One viewer wrote on X: "Ik that was awkward for Maya and Omar LOL."“Not Maya talking to Omar her ex boyfriend's friend [laughter emoji],” a second remarked.
A third questioned: “Do you think it’s awks between Omar and maya?”

Despite some calling out the exchange, others praised Jama for her “professionalism”.
A viewer commented: “omar and maya acting like he’s not besties w/ her ex. true professionalism”.
The Love Island final comes after the former couple shocked fans when they announced that they had ended their relationship a year after rekindling their romance.
Jama and the rapper, 30, had officially reunited in August 2023, announcing their relationship during a romantic getaway in Greece.
In an Instagram statement on July 17, Jama revealed they have once again parted ways, admitting they had spent the past year trying to "make it work."
The couple, who first went public with their romance in 2016, had previously been together for five years before their initial split in 2019.
Their split came a week after they appeared together at The British Grand Prix, where Jama was seen supporting Stormzy during his headline performance at the event.
Just days earlier, they were seen looking affectionate at Glastonbury, and the presenter had also been seen supporting him at his new bar in Soho.
Speculation about the pair rekindling their romance began swirling after they were spotted at his headline gig at All Points East festival in East London during 2023’s August bank holiday.
A week later, eagle-eyed fans put their investigative skills to work when they noticed that the background in each of their holiday pictures had a striking similarity and that they were in fact holidaying together in the same villa in Hydra, Greece. Shortly after, paparazzi snapped photos of the two holding hands on their not-so-secret holiday.
The couple then finally confirmed their relationship last October following months of reports when Jama posted an adorable Instagram story of Stormzy picking her up from the airport after she wrapped up filming the Love Island spin-off, Love Island Games.
The following month, they marked their first public appearance together attending British Vogue's Forces for Change party.
