Maya Jama 'quits major BBC hosting role' following Love Island success

Maya Jama has reportedly quit one of her BBC projects following her success as the brand new host of Love Island.

The 28-year-old is said to have stepped down from her role on Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star, which sees make-up artists compete in a variety of challenges. Maya made her Love Island debut last week as the series returned to South Africa for the first time in three years following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Maya took over the Glow Up role after Strictly Come Dancing winner Stacey Dooley stepped down for the 2021 and 2022 series. However, according to reports due to Maya's successful start as the new Love Island and Aftersun host she will not be returning to present a third series of the BBC show.

An insider told The Sun: "Maya loved her time hosting Glow Up for the last two series but has decided now not to return for another run. It was a really difficult decision but she's going to be really busy doing two series of Love Island this year, and couldn't make it work.

"She's also gone down such a storm on Love Island that demand for her has gone through the roof and her diary outside of filming the show is absolutely jam-packed. The BBC were gutted to lose her and are now on the hunt for her replacement."

This comes after Maya was recently sent a legal letter from her ex fiancé demanding she returns the £800,000 engagement ring he bought her. The TV personality was reportedly stunned after receiving the legal letter, as there was reportedly no prior warning the sportsman wanted the piece of jewellery back.

"Given Ben has never, until now, asked for the ring back, you can appreciate the letter came somewhat as a surprise to Maya," a source told The Sun.

They continued: "Ben was really shocked when she left and didn’t give him the ring back. He was madly in love with her and thought it was forever so was really p***ed she didn’t give it back. It cost around $1 million and they were engaged less than a year."

The 28-year-old, dated the basketball player, 26, for less than a year in a whirlwind romance. Ben proposed to Maya at his £3.7 million mansion in New Jersey during the Christmas period in 2021 before ultimately splitting last summer to focus on their careers.
