Maya Jama given 8-1 odds of hosting Big Brother reboot

Bookmakers have named Bristol's Maya Jama amongst their favourites to host the ITV reboot of Big Brother next year. William Hill gave the actress, TV presenter and model odds of 8-1 in the race to host the hotly anticipated show.

The iconic Big Brother game show, which first aired in Britain in 2000, is set to return to screens in 2023 on ITV2. It previously aired on Channel 4 and then Channel 5, until its cancellation in 2018.

The first UK series was hosted by Davina McCall, someone Jama has described as an early screen idol. The former Cotham School pupil was destined to become famous, many believed, with teachers describing her as “a very magnetic person, very charismatic and really popular”.

Now the 28-year-old Bristolian could follow in her idol McCall’s footsteps, having already hosted a variety of shows includingMTV’s The Wrap Up, the MOBO awards, The Circle and Glow Up.

But the competition will be stiff, with well established telly favourites like Rylan Clark and Vernon Kay also in the running.

Top 5 favourites to host Big Brother 2023

  1. Rylan Clark (8-11)

  2. Alison Hammond (2-1)

  3. Vernon Kay (7-1)

  4. Josie Gibson (8-1)

  5. Maya Jama (8-1)

Tony Kenny, head of sponsorship PR at William Hill, said: “Big Brother is back! After a long hiatus, fans across the country will be excitedly tuning in next year to watch the housemates in a new format.

“After the icon that was Davina McCall, it’ll be interesting to see who will be picked to take over hosting duties. Maya Jama would be a great choice with her presenting skills as well as her natural charisma and ability to bounce off others.”
