Hapless Scots Tory leader Douglas Ross has had a howler of a start to the council election campaign.
He received a frosty reception on the doorsteps in Edinburgh after inexplicably backing liar Boris Johnson to remain in office.
A campaign event was then hijacked by serial protestor Sean Clarkin, who mocked Ross for having “three jobs.”
Ross has managed to shoot himself in the foot again over his failure to condemn the Tory Government’s policy of shipping asylum seekers to Rwanda.
This awful policy has been roundly condemned and will surely bite the dust when Ministers try to push it through.
Ross had an ideal opportunity to distance himself from Johnson by hitting out at the disgraceful plans.
Instead, he missed an open goal by saying the Rwanda scheme should be looked at.
Nicola Sturgeon was right to question Ross’s willingness to take on his boss after his weasel words on Rwanda.
She said: “If he can’t even find it within himself to stand up and speak out against a policy as disgusting as this, then I’m not sure what he will be able to stand up to Boris Johnson or the UK Government on.”
Ross originally called for Johnson to quit over partygate, only to perform a humiliating U-turn.
He is clearly too scared to do the right thing and is content to be Johnson’s Scottish branch manager.
Voters should remember these craven actions when casting their ballot next month.
Be a bigger man
Cyclist Kirsty Lewin was making her way home through the Meadows in Edinburgh when she was met by a mob of aggressive teenage boys.
They verbally abused her and one of the gang even threatened to expose himself as they blocked her path.
Kirsty admits to being ”frightened” during the encounter where thankfully she came to no physical harm.
She has now bravely spoken about her experience which happened in a busy part of the city.
The boys who intimidated a lone woman going about her business are a disgrace and it is hoped the police can identify them as soon as possible.
It is disappointing that not one of the gang had the strength of character to put a stop to this behaviour and pull his mates into line.
It is the responsibility of all Scottish men to show their friends, brothers and colleagues that intimidating women has no place in modern Scotland.
If you see it happen, then be the bigger man and put a stop to it.
