Max Wober opens up on English culture, fish and chips plus 'amazing' Leeds United fans

Leeds United defender Max Wober has spoken about how he's already familiar with English football culture after completing his move from Red Bull Salzburg in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has had to assimilate to many different cultures in his short career, having played for Ajax, Sevilla and now the Whites outside of his home country of Austria.

But he admitted to the Official Leeds United Podcast that this isn't the first time - or even the second - that he's been to England in a sporting environment.

When asked if he's tried any local cuisine yet, he said: "I've tried fish and chips - I don't know if that is very Yorkshire or not, it was pretty good!

"So normally what I used to do when I was around 16, 17, 18, me and my friends would always travel to England on Boxing Day to watch the football and darts.

"We've been a couple of times to the Ally Pally [Alexandria Palace]. We were five guys, and we've been twice. The first time we were dressed as superheroes like the Hulk, Superman, Wonder Woman etc.

"And then the second time, it was three guys dressed as a cow and two others as farmers. So I've spent some time in pubs and I've eaten some English food like fish and chips.

The 24-year-old also admitted that he'd never seen support like what the Whites fans had given him and his teammates before - especially after the Cardiff away match in the F.A Cup.

"In Austria, it was always a big thing to get to watch the Premier League because I think there was only one game a weekend on live TV then and it was always a must-see for me.

"So I know about the culture, I know how much the fans love this game, how much they support the clubs and I'm going to experience that over the coming weeks I think.

"[The Leeds fans] have been amazing. I was at the West Ham game and the atmosphere was already crazy after the 2-2 draw, but before the cup match [against Cardiff], the guys were saying they'll be 7,000 away fans.

"I thought 3,000 was a good number for away fans but when I saw the stands and I heard the fans singing, it just felt like a home game. I've never experienced something like that."
