Max George has bravely opened up to fans about the 'disappointment' he feels as he reflected on the first anniversary of Tom Parker's death. The singer shared a video to social media on Thursday (March 30), 12 months on from his The Wanted bandmate's tragic death, aged 33.
Tom died on March 30, 2022 after a battle with terminal brain cancer glioblastoma, leaving behind his wife Kelsey and their children Aurelia, three, and Bodhi, two. He shared the news of his diagnosis with fans in October 2020 when Kelsey was pregnant with their second child.
Following Tom's tragic death, Kelsey has honestly and openly shared her grief journey. And marking the anniversary of Tom's death, Kelsey took to Instagram with a gorgeous picture of the pair. "One year without you," she simply typed alongside a red heart. "Forever my soul mate," the mum-of-two added.
Max meanwhile, who is currently on holiday in Dubai with his girlfriend Maisie Smith, posted an almost four-minute video to Instagram. Speaking from his hotel room, the 35-year-old, who starred alongside Tom in The Wanted for several years before their hiatus in 2014, said: "Obviously today is the one-year anniversary of Tom's passing, [it’s] a difficult day for everyone that knew him.
"I wanted to start by saying that my thought are with Kelsey and the kids, and all of his kids - Noreen, Nigel and Lewis especially. "It’s been a year and I know people say time’s a great healer, but to be honest, I don’t feel any better about the situation now than I did a year ago tomorrow when I woke up that next morning.
"What it’s taught me is that I've done more in the last year personally, myself, than I've ever done in my life and that’s probably what the loss of Tom has given me." It was at this point that he confessed that he thinks more about Tom now than he did when he was alive.
"The one thing that probably gets me the most, and it actually f***ing annoys me, is that I think about him more now than I did when he was here. Obviously apart from the fact that we lived together or we’re touring together because we’re with each other every day, but I think of him far more now than I did between the years of say 2014 to 2022.
"I think what I've learnt from his passing is never get too comfortable with the people that you love because those you can’t replace. Time doesn’t replace people who are your best friends or who have your heart so never get too comfortable."
He later added: "Time isn't healing much yet. On the flip side, as much as I do think about him a lot more and that disappoints me because I didn't when I wasn't with him when he was around. it also gives me more moments to think of good things about him which always puts a smile on my face."
He then thanked fans for all their messages and encouraged them to continue to send their support to Kelsey, her children and Tom's parents and brother. "Tommy, love you too and I miss you," the then movingly ended the clip.
Maisie showed her support for her boyfriend by resharing the video to her own Instagram Story and described Max as the 'strongest man' she knows. The comments section was also flooded with comments from people sharing their love and support to all those who will be missing Tom on the anniversary of his death.
