Mavericks’ Kyrie Irving Suffers Injured Foot vs. Trail Blazers

Kyrie Irving injured his right foot in the Mavericks’ 125–112 road victory against the Trail Blazers on Friday night.

Irving suffered the injury when Portland center Duop Reath fouled the eight-time All-Star underneath the basket in the second quarter. Irving then fell on the court and teammate Dwight Powell accidentally stepped on his right foot, leaving the superstar point guard in pain.

After staying down on the court for several minutes, Irving remained in the game to shoot two free throws. But Dallas teammate Tim Hardaway Jr. subsequently committed a foul so Irving could be removed from the game and taken to locker room. The Mavericks staff evaluated Irving’s foot and ruled him out for the rest of the contest.

After Friday’s win, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd told reporters that the team would know more about the extent of Irving’s injury on Saturday. Irving, who is averaging 23 points per game this season, finished Friday’s game with 11 points, two assists and two rebounds in 13 minutes.

Dallas (13–8) currently sits in third place in the Western Conference standings and will return to action on Monday against the Grizzlies (6–15) in Memphis at 8 p.m. ET.
