Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison was inevitably the subject of abuse from angered fans in the wake of Luka Doncic’s trade to the Lakers, with one spectator being ejected for his actions on the Jumbotron.
Mavericks Fan Ejected After Calling For Nico Harrison to be Fired
A toxic atmosphere still surrounds the American Airlines Center, with one of the NBA’s most shocking trades still clouding over the Mavericks.
Fans remain dumbfounded at the decidedly lopsided swap, which saw their 25-year-old prized possession Luka Doncic traded to the Lakers for an injury prone 31-year-old Anthony Davis, who already picked up an adductor strain on his debut last week.
The Dallas fanbase are still owed an explanation for what transpired this trade window. Owner Patrick Dumont’s recent comments hinted that Doncic – despite being arguably the best player in the league – did not have the desired attitude to lead the franchise for the foreseeable future.
However, this doesn’t entirely explain what the new direction is, particularly with Anthony Davis’ powers waining and his minutes on the court limited. Transforming them into a defensive juggernaut appears to be the trajectory, but at the expense of a player who single-handedly led them to the NBA Finals last year seems ill-fated.
Monday night saw Dallas host the Sacramento Kings – a game which they lost by a single-point margin – which only added to the sourness of Doncic lining up for the Lakers for the first time in LA.
With frustrations sky-high, one man took his opportunity on the Jumbotron to mouth “fire Nico” to the camera; a dig at general manager Nico Harrison who is yet to comment on the trade.

The production crew scrambling to zoom out of the frame only adds to the hilarity of the situation, but it soon turned into a situation that few could have foreseen.
The fan was ejected from the arena, which has been met with wide spread criticism on social media with people labelling the Dallas Mavericks as the “NBA‘s biggest joke”.
It follows a cowardice move from the franchise with Dallas fans being offered a refund on their season tickets.
Anger will continue to de-rail the Mavs’ season, which has been positively rocked since the departure of their star man.
There was simply no need for the urgency to shift him on, particularly with Doncic being under contract until the end of the season which could have seen a bidding war of epic proportions ensue.
The LA Lakers have jumped well ahead of the Mavericks in the NBA Championship odds market, according to NBA sportsbooks.
