Mauro Icardi is said to welcome the possibility of a move to Manchester United this summer, after the Argentina international became the latest forward to be linked with a switch to Old Trafford.
The former Inter Milan forward has become surplus to requirements at Paris Saint-Germain, for whom he has scored 38 goals in 92 appearances since joining them from Inter, initially on loan, in 2019.
With young forward Hugo Ekitike joining the Parisians this summer, Icardi has now fallen further down the pecking order in a squad also boasting Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, and new PSG boss Christophe Galtier has ordered him to train separately from the rest of the squad and says he is free to leave.
"I told him that I want to reduce the size of the squad and not work with 25 outfield players,’ said Galtier during a recent press conference.
"The club is working closely with Mauro to find the best possible solution.
"He’s had very little game time and I think it would be best for him to get back up and running."
United have seen moves for several forwards fail so far this summer amid ongoing uncertainty around the future of Cristiano Ronaldo and an injury to Anthony Martial, who has returned from his loan at Sevilla.
New boss Erik ten Hag is desperate to bring in a new forward, and started with Christian Eriksen in a false nine position in last weekend's 2-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.
United have so far seen moves for teenage star Benjamin Sesko and Germany international Timo Werner fail this summer, with the pair both joining RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg and Chelsea respectively.
The former Stoke and West Ham forward Marko Arnautovic was also targeted by United, but a move to sign the 33-year-old from Bologna collapsed.
Icardi would now seem to be the next player on United's list, and Argentinean publication TyC Sports claim the 29-year-old would "welcome" the move to Old Trafford on a loan deal with an option to make the switch permanent or a straight transfer.
With agent and wife Wanda Nara leading negotiations over his future, Icardi is also said to have been targeted by Turkish giants Galatasaray, with whom Nara is said to have already met with three times.
Ten Hag has so far faced frustration in the transfer market at United, with Eriksen, full-back Tyrell Malacia and centre-back Lisandro Martinez the only new arrivals.
Speaking on Friday, the Dutchman admitted the club had to bring in more new recruits, with a central midfielder and forward deemed vital.
When asked if the summer so far had been "a disaster" he said: “No. Of course it would be my preference [to bring in more players] because we could be starting the process earlier [making these signings].
"That’s quite clear but the season is long and you have to get in the right players.”
