Mauricio Pochettino tipped to seal two Chelsea transfers as Todd Boehly summer stance emerges

Mauricio Pochettino could find himself back managing in the Premier League again very soon as the Argentine edges closer to becoming Chelsea's next head coach. Chelsea's talks with the former Tottenham boss have been positive, football.london understands and he now looks to be the front-runner for the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique were other names in the running, but neither are in the race anymore which subsequently outlined Pochettino as the favourite. Reservations were initially prominent regarding his links to Chelsea's London rivals Tottenham, but they are no longer at play with the playing squad also said to be excited over the thought of Pochettino coming in.

Journalist Alex Crook shared a huge update on the Pochettino to Chelsea saga revealing his transfer priorities and genuine thoughts regarding the current squad. “Not done yet is the message we’re getting out of Stamford Bridge, but talks are certainly advancing,” Crook told talkSPORT when asked about how close Pochettino is to becoming the next Chelsea manager.

“Pochettino made it clear that he fancies the job. He actually doesn’t think that Chelsea are far away from being serious challengers despite their poor season.

“If they can get a top-class centre-forward and maybe a goalkeeper, he could turn them into contenders next season.”

The obvious candidate to fill the natural striker role, considering his past links with Pochettino, would be Tottenham star Harry Kane. With his contract up in 2024, the 29-year-old faces a huge decision this summer especially with chairman Daniel Levy reluctant to sell his star striker to a rival club.

Napoli's Victor Osimhen is also a potential name on the wish list, however after a scintillating goal-scoring season he, like Kane, will likely cost a substantial fee. Although Chelsea, despite their FFP worries and the impending June 30 deadline to balance the books, may be able to afford it.

According to the Guardian, despite spending over £500m since taking over the club, Boehly and co. look set to back whoever comes in this summer "significantly", ahead of the 2023/24 season. This report would likely place Pochettino in good stead to bring in his number one target.

In the goalkeeping department, there are several options for the Argentine. Borussia Dortmund's Gregor Kobel has been linked while David Raya at Brentford is another option. Inter shot stopper Andre Onana has recently appeared on the Blues' radar along with Valencia man Giorgi Mamardashvili.
