Mauricio Pochettino seeking ‘more involvement’ in Chelsea transfers with January planning underway

Mauricio Pochettino says he wants to be “more involved” in Chelsea’s transfer activity and has begun identifying January targets.

The Argentine took a hands-off role in another remarkable summer of spending at Stamford Bridge, when over £400million worth of players were signed and 13 full internationals sold for just under £300m.

He now wants to have more involvement, with Chelsea reportedly monitoring a potential move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney. The Blues also saw a deadline day bid for Club Brugge forward Antonio Nusa rejected.

Asked whether he wants to sign a striker after Nicolas Jackson's struggles in front of goal, Pochettino said: “The good thing is the relationship and communication is very good with the sporting directors and owners.

“When the transfer window was closed I said I need to be more involved now in all the decisions. I have started to work to identify what we need for January.

“I think football is very dynamic and it is about the present always, things can change until January. Now, we need to work to recover [Christopher] Nkunku and Armando Broja to try to provide the team with more goals and become solid.

“Also, parallel to identifying or finding profiles to improve the team, the way we want to assess the team during the competition. But, of course, we have already started to work.”
