Gimnastic de Tarragona have given Mauricio Pochettino 's son a chance after the 21-year-old failed to impress at both Tottenham and Watford in recent seasons.
Pochettino's son, Maurizio, has joined the Spanish side on a free transfer after being released by Watford this summer. The youngster is yet to get his break in senior football, after only making one senior appearance for the Hornets.
The right winger joins on a one-year deal, with the option to trigger a further two years should he prove to be a success. But he's taken a rather sizeable dive in order to join Gimnastic, as they play in Spain's third tier.
Unlike his father, who was a very impressive centre-back, Maurizio is an attacker and plays out wide. But it's yet to be seen if he has the ability despite being drafted into the Southampton academy back in 2015.
Pochettino has always kept his family close, bringing his son to Southampton while he was managing the Saints, and he also moved him to Tottenham just one year after taking on his new role. However, he was released by Tottenham in 2021 after being Antonio Conte took charge.
Only six months were spent at Watford, but now it's a new challenge for Pochettino. The winger has moved to Spain where his father made a name for himself as both player and manager. The former Paris Saint Germain boss moved to Espanyol in 1994 after joining from boyhood club Newell's Old Boys, and went on to become a club legend.
After spending nine years at Espanyol over two separate stints, Pochettino returned as manager three years after retiring as a player, and heads quickly began to turn. Pochettino earned a lot of praise, and was picked up by Southampton in 2013 before Tottenham swooped in just over a year later.
Pochettino was involved in two Premier League title races, and fell at the final hurdle in the Champions League before form began to turn and he was shown the door. But his son stuck around for an extra few years until making his departure.
Maurizio wasn't his only son at the club, as Sebastinao was appointed as Tottenham's first team sports scientist. Both brothers were actively working at the club, but the whole family has now been cut off by Tottenham.
But now Maurizio has been given a chance by Gimnastic, and it could be exactly what he needs to get back on track. And the club clearly feel confident that they have made an excellent signing. In a press release announcing the deal, a statement read: "He will bring speed to both sides of the attack.
"Pochettino is a fast player with a great ability to reach the goal, so he will add skill and imbalance to the scheme. of coach Raul Agne." But Pochettino won't be the only famous name joining the division this season.
Enzo Zidane has signed for Fuenlabrada which will also bee a one-year deal. The son of French Icon Zinedine has also struggled in his fathers' footsteps.
