Mauricio Pochettino's Man Utd contacts after plea made from inside Red Devils camp

Mauricio Pochettino is the Manchester United squad's preferred choice to become their next head coach.

Mirror Sport revealed last week that the Paris-Saint Germain manager is the leading contender to take over from interim boss Ralf Rangnick in the summer - and the Old Trafford hierarchy are confident they can land him.

Pochettino is likely to leave Paris this summer and has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag and Luis Enrique are also in the frame to take the job but the general consensus from the United dressing room is they would like Pochettino to have it.

Pochettino will hope to use his contacts within the squad to fend off the competition with the likes of Luke Shaw still in talks with the former Tottenham boss from his days at Southampton, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Who should be the next Man Utd boss? Let us know in the comments below.

Pochettino took his first job in England at St. Mary's in January 2013 and enjoyed a successful spell in charge before moving to Spurs in May the following year.

Shaw played under the Argentine before leaving for Manchester United that same summer.

And it appears they have kept in touch over the years with Shaw looking to reunite with Pochettino once again.

Pochettino clearly left a lasting impression on the England international despite only having a season-and-a-half under his tutelage.

Shaw was asked to write in Spanish journalist Guillem Balague's book called 'Brave New World: Inside Pochettino's Spurs.'

And the full-back says claimed he was that close with Pochettino, the PSG boss used to call him "son"

The defender also praised his style of management that brought the best out of him and hopes to "play for him again one day."

Shaw wrote in the book's epilogue, via Mail Online : "He used to call me his son, 'That's how good our relationship was. I've had lots of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was only ever up, up, up.

"He made me feel that I was the best. He'd show me clips of my games and say, 'You could do this better'. Not in a horrible way. Not I could have done better, but I should have done better, because he knows I can be better.

"I think with Southampton he achieved the impossible. We were one of the best footballing teams in the league… I do hope that I can play for him again one day. And I think he really wants me to play under him again."
