Mauricio Pochettino made three Premier League decisions before Chelsea agreement

Mauricio Pochettino is set to be appointed as Chelsea' manager ahead of the summer transfer window after reaching an agreement with the club, football.london understands. The Argentine is yet to officially sign a contract with the Blues, but after weeks of positive talks an agreement has now been reached between the two parties.

Pochettino will be under no illusions regarding the size of the task he is taking on at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have endured a poor season and will not feature in any European competition next term.

Frank Lampard was brought in as caretaker manager until the end of the season after Todd Boehly sacked Graham Potter in April. The American co-owner has admitted to making a number of mistakes this season and will be hoping that things start to improve under Pochettino next term.

The 51-year-old has been without a job in football after he left his position at Paris Saint-Germain following their Ligue 1 title success at the end of the 2021/22 season. However, a report from the BBC has stated Pochettino could have returned to management sooner.

The Argentine received job offers from across Europe with Benfica, Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, Villarreal and Nice all approaching him after he left PSG. Premier League clubs also showed interest in Pochettino with Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Leeds all having considered approaching the 51-year-old as their new manager - although Forest ended up sticking with promotion-winning boss Steve Cooper - while Villa and Leeds appointed Unai Emery and Javi Gracia respectively.

Pochettino had opted to wait for the right opportunity and rejected those eight clubs in order to become Chelsea's new head coach at the end of the season. The 51-year-old will be joined by his trusted coaching staff with Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and son Sebastiano will all set to join him at Stamford Bridge.
