Mauricio Pochettino breaks silence on Auston Trusty's USA withdrawal

United States men's national team boss Mauricio Pochettino says it's difficult to explain Auston Trusty's withdrawal from the current camp because he isn't a doctor.

The Celtic central defender was called up by the Argentinian gaffer to play for his country against Panama this month but was recently forced to drop out of the squad.

And speaking at a recent press conference, Pochettino offered an explanation as Trusty, along with teammates Antonee Robinson and Johnny Cardoso, packed their bags: "I think the three players that were included were Antonee, and then Truty and Cardoso," he said.

"For different reasons but medical reasons, they are not here for that, and it’s difficult to explain because I am not a doctor.

"I am not the right guy to say and to explain what happened with these guys but I see for different reasons they have some problems.

"And for medical reasons, that is why they cannot be here for the CONCACAF."

Trusty's USA absence comes after he was surprisingly not in the squad for Celtic's 3-2 loss to Rangers on Sunday. The lesser-spotted Maik Nawrocki started in his place.

Brendan Rodgers said Trusty missed the derby clash with a calf issue, although it remains to be seen whether the same problem has forced him not to play for his nation this month.

Celtic take on Heart of Midlothian next weekend when they return to action following the international break.
