Mauricio Pochettino announcement confirmed as Chelsea given date for long-awaited England return

Mauricio Pochettino has been unveiled as the new Soccer Aid World XI manager ahead of the annual charity match at Old Trafford on Sunday June 11. The former Tottenham boss has been heavily linked with filling the vacant head coach position at Stamford Bridge for a while now, and Chelsea supporters have been teased by the announcement.

football.london understands that Pochettino agreed a deal last week to become the Blues' new manager at the end of the season. After weeks of positive talks, the two parties finally reached an agreement, just hours after the west Londoners' draw with Nottingham Forest.

It's believed that the 51-year-old will be in London to sign the contract this week and tie any loose ends. Pochettino is expected to sign a three-year contract with Chelsea – and that is still the case.

While the reason for a delay is unknown, football.london understands that there is nothing to be worried about and, ultimately, it's up to Chelsea as a club when they announce the Argentine's arrival. His recent unveiling as the new Soccer Aid World XI could explain the slight hold-up.

If the Blues do not announce Pochettino ahead of the Soccer Aid build-up then he'll likely face plenty of questions concerning his future. Nevertheless, Chelsea fans will be glued to their screens on June 11 hoping get a glimpse into how the Argentine could setup next season.

Despite the excitement around his appointment in west London, Simon Jordan has cast doubt as to whether or not Pochettino is a winner. In a column for the Daily Mail, the talkSPORT presenter said: "Mauricio Pochettino’s imminent arrival at Chelsea is an interesting one.

"Yes, he built a great side at Tottenham but he didn’t win anything and although I’m sure he’ll make Chelsea contenders again, I don’t think he’ll land any silverware for them because I don’t think he’s a winner, he just gives you a whiff of winning.

"It’s one thing winning in France with Paris Saint-Germain — if you don’t win something there then for God’s sake what are you doing? — but if you want to go to Chelsea you’d better make damn sure you’re a winner and I’m not sure he is."
