Maura Tierney Joins Law & Order As NYPD Lieutenant

Law & Order TV Series 1990

Law & Order is gearing up for its 24th season with the addition of two-time Emmy nominee Maura Tierney to its ensemble cast. Tierney will be taking on the role of an NYPD lieutenant in the long-running NBC drama, following the departure of Camryn Manheim who played Lt. Kate Dixon for three seasons.

Tierney's casting marks the second recent addition to the show's cast, with Tony Goldwyn joining midway through the previous season after the exit of Sam Waterston, the show's longest-serving cast member.

With an impressive television resume, Tierney has previously starred in two NBC series, NewsRadio and ER, earning her first Emmy nomination for her role as Abby Lockhart on ER in 2001. She also has a brief history with Law & Order, having guest-starred in an episode during the show's second season in 1991.

Currently, Tierney can be seen in the hit movie Twisters, which made waves at the box office during its opening weekend. Her recent television credits include appearances in Showtime's The Affair and Your Honor, as well as The Iron Claw.

Joining Tierney in the Law & Order cast are Mehcad Brooks, Reid Scott, Hugh Dancy, and Odelya Halevi. The highly anticipated 24th season of the show is set to premiere on October 3.
