Maura Higgins reportedly caught Pete Wicks messaging other women before their split.
The I’m A Celebrity star, 34, and Strictly Come Dancing alum, 37, are believed to have called things off recently after several months of dating.
The reality star found “loads” of messages with other girls on Wicks’ phone after becoming “suspicious” of the podcaster, sources claimed.
“Maura was suspicious of Pete and whether he might have been messing her around. There’s been some rows over trust,” an insider told The Sun on Sunday.
“She felt she was proved right when she saw loads of messages with other women on his phone. She knew she’d never be able to feel like she could trust him - even if the messages were all innocent, it’s not something she could get past.”
The source added: “She didn’t want to be constantly worried about what her man was doing.”
The Standard has contacted representatives for Higgins and Wicks for comment.
It comes after Higgins quipped that Wicks was “probably cheating” when asked about the TOWIE star while celebrating Valentine’s Day in London with friends.
She was quizzed by a paparazzo from The Sun about Wicks’ whereabouts while leaving Sheesh restaurant on Friday night.
“Dunno, probably cheating,” she responded coolly in a video.
The Irish model also sent herself flowers on Valentine’s Day, sharing a snap of a huge bouquet of red roses with a card that read: “To me, love me.”
Last week, it was reported that Higgins and Wicks - who have known each other for six years - decided they were “better off as friends”.
“Maura and Pete have decided to call off their romance. There have been a few clashes and it was eventually agreed they were better off as friends,” a source told MailOnline.
“Those closest to them know it's been a very on and off relationship, which is why they were so resistant to go public in the first place. They remain close and share a deep connection.”
Despite remaining tight-lipped about their romance, the pair were pictured on several dates and seen kissing at red-carpet events last year.
They also enjoyed a New Year’s getaway together at Glasson Lakehouse Co. Westmeath, close to Maura's hometown in Ireland.
Wicks praised the “incredibly witty” and “super intelligent” star on a podcast in January.
“Maura and I have known each other for a long time now... about six years,” he said.
“We have the same sense of humour, she's super intelligent and I think that is sometimes something that people don't realise about Maura.'
“She's incredibly witty. We have always been there for each other for the past six years at a distance.
“It's different now. We spend more time together now than we did before. My relationship with her is that I think she's a great person and I would hope that she thinks I'm alright.”
