Maude Apatow says ‘nepotism baby’ label makes her ‘work harder’ to prove she’s worthy of success

Maude Apatow says she is determined to prove that there is more to her than being the offspring of famous people.

The Euphoria star, 24, is the daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann and while she says she is “lucky” to have had opportunities with her family, she wont let it define her.

The actress was named Harper’s Bazaar’s Breakthrough act at Thursday night’s ceremony and appears on an exclusive digital cover for Harper’s Bazaar’s December/January issue.

In September, Apatow explained that “at first I was sad”, when she learned about the criticism but explained that she is keen to step out of her famous parents’ shadow.

She explained: “I’m so lucky that I’ve had opportunities with my family, but it only makes me want to work harder to show that I am worthy.

“I’m going to try my best to do things that set me apart.”

Adding: “We’re a very close family. I’ve learnt a lot from watching my parents work, seeing them fully committing to what they’re doing. I’ve always looked up to them.”

Away from acting, she’s also a keen writer with her writer-director dad inspiring her to write a meta project about her own life.

She explained: “Writing makes me really happy. Being an actor, you work job to job and you don’t always know what’s going to happen next.

“So, a lot of times, you’re in these limbo stages when you’re waiting for something to come in.

“My dad has always encouraged me to spend that time writing, and it makes me feel much more fulfilled knowing I can control my own destiny a little bit.”

Since finding much acclaim starring as Lexi Howard on Euphoria, Aptow has amassed a loyal fanbase online - but not all her new followers have good intentions as she discussed the trolling she’s been subjected to.

“The internet can be vicious, so I try to stay off it,” she shared.

“One moment everyone loves you, and then the next they turn on you – you can never ride that wave, because the higher the highs are, the lower the lows will feel.”
