Matty Longstaff’s throwback picture wearing Celtic shirt as Man United conqueror celebrates big win

A picture of Manchester United tormentor-in-chief Matty Longstaff has emerged of Newcastle’s rising star wearing a Celtic shirt.

The 19-year-old struck the winning goal on his Magpies debut to consign Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to yet another Premier League defeat.

The midfielder and his brother Sean are the talk of the Toon having helped grab a huge win for Steve Bruce’s men.

They are Newcastle fans through and through but it also seems Matty has a soft spot for Celtic.

There is an image of the brothers that has appeared online of Matty sporting the Hoops while his sibling Sean is wearing the black and white stripes.

Now, the reasons why the younger brother has donned the famous green and white is unclear, although former Celtic star Alan Thompson is related to the pair.

In an interview back in August 2018, Sean spoke of the influence Thompson and their dad, David – a former Great Britain ice hockey captain – has had on their careers.

Sean said: “It’s important to have that behind you.

“My dad has been there through his life on the ice hockey circuit.

“My mam was a netball player and they are so supportive.

“They have been there through the ups and downs.

“There’s also Thommo (Alan Thompson) who offers advice so I am in a pretty privileged position to have that many sports people around me who have been there and done it.”
