Mattress Mick the Musical is on the hunt for a star to play title role

Mattress Mick the Musical is set to come to Dublin - and the hunt is on for a star to play the title role.

The musical will follow the life of the Dublin businessman, Michael Flynn, better known as Mattress Mick, who has developed a cult-like following after his rap song went viral in 2014. The play will premier on April 27 and 28 at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin.

Writer and director Josephine McCaffery described the musical as a "story about a man who lost everything, but by being creative and not giving up, he managed to turn it all around". Ussaun Productions is looking for a star to play the role of Mattress Mick.

The production house is looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Age range 20 to 40 years
  • Strong singing voice
  • Comfortable with dancing/movement
  • Confident with speaking with a Dublin accent

Additionally, casting calls have been made for three "versatile male actors" (one of whom will play the role of an understudy for Mattress Mick) and three "versatile female actresses". Eager applicants must be aged from 20 to 60 years with a good singing voice. They should be comfortable with dancing and must be able to speak confidently in a Dublin accent.

The production company is also looking for a wide range of people to take part in a few street and market scenes.

For the auditions, people will be asked to sing a song and recite a short monologue as well as passages from the script. Auditions will take place on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Lir Drama Academy on Pearse Street.

Rehearsals will start in Dublin city centre on March 7. All you need to do is send your CV and headshots to ussaunproductions@gmail.com.
