Matthijs de Ligt's comments are proof that Marcus Rashford would be given a fresh start at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag.
Rashford has endured a difficult season at Old Trafford and has scored just five goals in 26 outings. The MEN Sport understands the England international is thinking of leaving the club, with his omission from the starting XI for the recent derby loss to Manchester City causing him to consider his future.
Meanwhile, MEN Sport understands the United board are hoping to appoint Ajax boss Ten Hag as their permanent manager. And if De Ligt's comments from January 2018 are anything to go by, Rashford will be given a chance to prove he is worthy of a place in the United starting line-up.

Speaking to Joep Schreuder of the NOS, the defender said: "Everybody has a new start under Erik ten Hag with a new football vision and opinions and as a squad that can only be good for us in order to continue development in the future. The training is different under Erik ten Hag with a lot of focus on tactical elements and positional play and it is really instructive. I want to become even more consistent and develop my skills under our new manager Erik Ten Hag."
Reports elsewhere suggest United are hoping to complete their search for a new boss in the very near future. MEN Sport believes the club remain hopeful of appointing a new manager before the conclusion of the current campaign.
