There were loads of Detroit Lions fans with a strong rooting interest in Super Bowl LVI. No, the Lions weren’t in the game. But longtime Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford was, and his Los Angeles Rams are the world champs after Stafford led yet another game-winning drive.
While it was a divisive issue in Lions land, there is no doubt many fans were pulling for Stafford and the Rams to win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Stafford was asked in the postgame if he could feel the love from Detroit fans.
“It was amazing,” Stafford responded. “Like you said, there was no reason for them to cheer for me anymore. The fact that they did is just a testament to who they are as people and who they are as fans. You play in a Midwest city, you know the deal. They live and die with those guys, the players, and to have that support all the way across the country here playing in this game means the world to me, my wife and my family.”

It’s a classy response from Stafford that helps validate why so many Lions fans remain fans of No. 9 as well.
