Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams have some business to take care of this offseason. After reworking the quarterback’s contract last summer to effectively make it a one-year deal worth $40 million, the two sides will need to head back to the negotiating table this offseason to get a new contract done.
Stafford still plans to play in 2025 but whether that’s with the Rams remains to be seen. His wife Kelly weighed in on the matter and made it clear that Stafford “wants to win.” He also doesn’t want to “put a team in a bad situation,” suggesting that he won’t handcuff his team with a massive contract that makes it more difficult to build a championship-caliber roster.
In the event that the Rams and Stafford can’t get a deal done, she said, “I love an adventure.”
“My husband wants to win,” she said. “He’s not trying to put a team in a bad situation. If you’re catching my drift, you’re catching my drift. I will say the trading away of Cooper? I’m confused because we were one play away from going to the NFC championship. And I think if we go, we win. I have to be the dog in this situation being like, I want the respect for him that he deserves. Yes, I love the city of L.A. I love the city of L.A. With that being said, I love an adventure.”

Stafford still has two years left on his current contract but with much of his guaranteed money being pushed forward into 2024, he doesn’t have a lot of financial security left on his deal. Hence, the fact that he and the Rams need to find a solution this offseason.
Sean McVay and the Rams would probably love to have Stafford back but it’ll take a new contract to keep him in Los Angeles. That’s something both sides need to figure out sooner rather than later, especially now that it’s been reported Stafford wants to keep playing in 2025.
