Matthew McConaughey's wife reveals scary moment their plane suddenly DROPPED 4,000ft

Matthew McConaughey 's wife Camila Alves has revealed the scary situation she faced mid-air as the plane she was travelling on suddenly dropped 4,000ft after hitting an extreme pocket of turbulence.

Taking to Instagram, the model, 41, shared the terrifying moment her jet hit the turbulence as the incident reportedly caused a number of injuries to fellow passengers.

The couple were originally destined for Frankfurt in Germany when the incident occurred 37,000 feet above Tennessee. It caused the plane to do an emergency landing at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

Alongside the clip, which showed a number of products sprawled across the aisle of the carrier, Camila wrote: "Flight last night, plane dropped almost 4000 feet, 7 people went to the hospital, Everything was flying everywhere."

She described the moment as "CHAOS," saying "the turbulence kept on coming".

Camila continued: "The @lufthansa flight you are seeing on the news today!!!! Yes…that one. Thank God everyone was safe and ok. I must say everyone @marriottbonvoy by the airport of Washington where we had to divert to and spend the night was so kind!"

She then said her and hubby Matthew, 53, managed to make it to the hotel bar just before closing time before they were able to sleep well after the ordeal.

Reports suggested the plane had been struck by lightning with one passenger's spouse commenting in a tweet: "People who didn’t have the seat belts fastened got hurt mostly cause it came as surprise without seat belt sign on and lighting hit the plane badly."

Unfortunately the follow-up flight she was scheduled on was also predicted to suffer from turbulence, but hopefully nowhere near as bad.

While she is yet to update fans on how the flight to Germany went, she uploaded a video to her Instagram of her sitting on board her new plane.

Appearing nervous, Camila said: "Just my luck after last night, just got on the rescheduled flight and pilot's saying we have a 45 minute turbulence getting out of Washington. Just my luck."

She ended by raising her eyebrows as she said: "Wish me luck."
