It seems like designers are itching to shake things up lately. Creative director departures began as a slow trickle and developed into a borderline monsoon. So Matthew M. Williams' decision to leave Givenchy isn't that shocking.
The American designer has been in charge of the French fashion house for four years. He definitely brought an edge to the brand, but Givenchy hasn't exactly been on the tip of the industry's tongue in recent seasons. Williams officially leaves January 1, 2024 and the Pre-Fall 2024 collections will be his curtain call. He plans to stay busy, however, by working on his own label 1017 ALYX 9SM.
It'll be interesting to see who takes over Givenchy next. We'll keep you posted.
