Matthew Hoppe 'knew nothing' about Hibs loan switch as he makes 'perfect move' admission

New Hibs man Matthew Hoppe admits he knew 'nothing' about his move to the club until late on deadline day.

The USA forward arrived at Easter Road on the final day of the January window as Hibs were held 1-1 by Ross County in the Highlands, with the attacker announced on the club's media at half-time in Dingwall. It looked as if star man Kevin Nisbet would leave Leith last month but the Scotland cap dramatically decided against a move to Millwall in the late stages, with Hoppe adding firepower.

Lee Johnson showed faith in the 21-year-old in the weekend's win over St Mirren after Harry McKirdy was forced off with an injury following just 18 minutes of action. Hoppe explains it all went by fast before he made his maiden outing in Paisley but insists there is more to come from him.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: “I learned about the move on deadline day. I left all that to my agent. I just want to focus on, wherever I’m at, giving 100 per cent. So I left it to my agent. I trust him – and Middlesbrough want to do whatever they can to help me, so I think this is the perfect move. Even though I knew nothing about it.

“We had training on Thursday, then matchday minus one, then the game. So I didn’t have much time. I’d just come back from America and I’d been doing a lot of travelling, but I’m settled in now and ready to go now. I’m excited to see what this move holds for me.”
