Matt Wallace picks up first PGA Tour title to end five-year winless streak

Matt Wallace picked up the first PGA tournament victory of his career and his first title of any kind since 2018 at the PGA Corales Puntacana Championship on Sunday.

Wallace had tumbled outside the world’s top 200 after struggles with his game but produced a final-round six-under-par 66 to win by a solitary stroke from Nicolai Hojgaard.

The Dane had the chance to force a play-off with a 20-foot birdie on the 18th but missed to give Wallace a one-stroke victory.

Wallace boasts four wins on the former European (now DP World Tour), with his last coming in Denmark back in September 2018.

The 32-year-old had been undone by a series of missed cuts but had come close to vying for victories recently.

Following the win, Wallace, who climbed more than 50 places up the world rankings as a result, said: “Very happy. Down those last few holes I knew I could do it. I played great all week. Just came out on top, so very lucky. This is cool.”
