Matt Smith has hinted he may have been involved in “slightly too many” sex scenes in the Game of Thrones sequel, House of the Dragon.
The 39-year-old former Doctor Who star, who plays Daemon Targaryen in the HBO series admitted he was left asking himself whether there was a need for another sex scene during filming.
Speaking to Rolling Stone UK, Smith suggested that GoT fans can expect plenty of raunchy action in the upcoming series, set 200 years before the original Game of Thrones hit show.
“You do find yourself asking: ‘Do we need another sex scene?’ And they’re like: ‘Yeah, we do’,” he told the publication.
“I guess you have to ask yourself: ‘What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time (we’re living in)?’
He added:“And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written.”
When quizzed about whether his character was involved in some of the sex scenes, he added: “Yeah — slightly too much, if you ask me.”
The Game of Thrones prequel follows the story of the house of Targaryen during an infamous event in the Westeros world known as the Dance of the Dragons. The HBO 10-part series will be released on August 21.
Smith is joined by a stellar cast for the upcoming series that includes Paddy Considine, Steve Toussaint, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, and Olivia Cooke.
Smith’s remarks about the amount of sex scenes in House of the Dragon came some years after Game of Throne’s Emilia Clarke suggested that she “couldn’t stand” the steamy scenes filmed in her series.
“I’m British, so I cringe at that sort of thing anyway — I can’t stand it,” she told the Daily Mail at the time. After the show concluded, she similarly suggested that she felt uncomfortable with some of her nude scenes.
