Matt O'Riley vows Celtic's title charge won't be derailed by 'strange' VAR calls after being penalised again

Matt O’Riley insists dubious VAR calls won’t disrupt Celtic’s title charge after claiming he was the victim of another “strange” decision yesterday.

The Hoops midfielder is adamant a second-half flashpoint which saw the ball hit his hand after an attempted clearance rebounded off Ross County player Callum Johnson, was further injustice for his side. Whistler David Munro pointed to the spot, VAR failed to overturn the call and David Cancola gave the Highlanders a lead.

But Celtic fought back to win and O’Riley believes they will be relentless in their pursuit of retaining the Premiership crown. He said: “We have had some strange decisions go against us at the moment but they still can’t stop us, so that is alright. I do not know what I really could have done. My hands are by my side. I do not know if the ball hit my hip then my arm or my arm first but I do not know where else I could have put my arm.”

The Danish Under-21 star also admitted his side fell below par against County but their ability to recover from adversity saw them pull through. O’Riley said: “The performance was OK. It was not one of our best.

“I thought we played OK but it could have been better, probably could have taken a few more chances. It was one of those days when the ball was not going in but we came from behind and have shown we can do that across the season so far.

“I am really happy we have gone into the break winning all our games. We are in a good place.

“The St Mirren loss was a wake-up call and since then we have been really ruthless in terms of our approach. We’ll try to continue that.”
