Matt O'Riley shock as Celtic star is snubbed for Euro 2024

Denmark has made the shock call to snub Celtic star Matt O'Riley for their Euro 2024 squad.

Head coach Kasper Hjulmand has decided to omit the 23-year-old from his player pool to take to Germany next month.

O'Riley is fresh from lifting the league and cup double with Celtic last week.

He scored an outstanding 19 goals in all competitions last season and notched 18 assists along the way.

The former MK Dons man cleaned up Celtic's Player of the Year awards recently and has been touted with a big-money move this summer.

O'Riley has been capped for Denmark but has so far failed to become a regular of Hjulmand's national team squad.

And the attacking midfielder will now have extra time off, with his services not required at the Euros this summer.

Denmark will take on England, Slovenia and Serbia in their group at the tournament.

Atletico Madrid are among the clubs looking at O'Riley, having already had a loan-to-buy offer rejected by Parkhead chiefs in January.

Newcastle United and Brighton are believed to be interested south of the border, while Inter Milan have previously been credited with being keen.

It comes as O'Riley was named as the most valuable player to ever play in the Scottish Premiership.

New data from Transfermarkt showed that O'Riley's fantastic form during the 2023/24 campaign saw his market value skyrocket from €7m up to €20m.

“With 19 goals and 18 assists in 49 games across all competitions, O’Riley was unquestionably the best player in Scotland this season,” said UK Lead Content Manager Stefan Bienkowski. “Following serious interest from Atletico Madrid in January, Celtic are expecting a lot of interest in O’Riley this summer and would likely look to sell him for a fee in the range of what they got for Kieran Tierney (€27m to Arsenal) or Jota (€29.1m to Al-Ittihad).”
