Matt O'Riley's new Celtic deal sees midfielder earn 'huge' pay raise

Matt O'Riley's new Celtic deal includes a "huge" pay rise on what the Dane was previously earning.

This is according to the Scottish Sun, who claim the Scottish champions have significantly increased the player's salary.

Leeds United were one of the clubs interested in the 22-year-old over the summer, but O'Riley opted to his extend his contract at Parkhead until 2027.

The former MK Dons midfielder has made a strong start to the season, scoring five goals and providing two assists across nine appearances.

Just hours after signing his new deal O'Riley scored a dramatic late winner for the Hoops at Fir Park as they defeated Motherwell.

The win saw Celtic extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership and the playmaker was ecstatic with his contribution.

He said: "There wasn’t too much going through my head from what I can remember, trying to think back on it now.

"My mind was pretty clear and I knew what I had to do in that moment, it was just about executing it, and I did.

"I think, first of all, the culture we've got going on. It's a nice environment to be around. For me, it's very easy to come to work and just enjoy my football.

"Second of all, we've got crazy fans, who just love football. Everyone’s just really together in the whole city, and probably elsewhere in the whole world.

"I don’t think as a player you get many chances to be involved with a club that has a fanbase like this.

"So, I'm cherishing and embracing that as it's really important to me, and I'm trying my best to do that at the moment."
