Matt O'Riley's five word Celtic message to Aaron Mooy as he calls time on career

Matt O'Riley has paid a touching tribute to Celtic teammate Aaron Mooy as he announced his retirement.

The Hoops star delivered a five word response as the club broke the news that the Aussie was hanging up his boots after a hugely successful season in Glasgow. Mooy was a key component as Ange Postecoglou's juggernaut romped to a treble. The classy midfielder delivered some outstanding displays both in the cup and league, especially in the second half of the season.

Mooy featured 42 times in all competitions for Celtic netting seven goals and providing 11 assists. At times Mooy's sensational run of form meant O'Riley could only feature from the bench, with Postecoglou opting for his countrymen to slot into the midfield trio of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Mooy a times. But O'Riley has given a classy response to the news that his main competition is calling it a day.

The 22-year-old Dane took to Instagram to pay tribute to the 32-year-old Socceroo's ace.

O'Riley shared a picture of the two of them celebrating and simply said: "Congrats on an amazing career mate," followed by a green love heart emoji.

Mooy signed off his career with an appearance at the World Cup for Australia where he joined ex-Rangers man Jason Cummings in Qatar.

The maestro who previously shone for Huddersfield Town in the Premier League played a key role as the Socceroo's qualified from their Group only to be knocked out by the eventual winners Argentina.

Yesterday (Friday) Mooy announce he was retiring from the game as he thanked fans for their backing.

He told the Celtic website: “While it feels really sad to be leaving the game, I just feel the time is right for me. I have been so fortunate to enjoy such a great career across the last 15 years, creating some fantastic memories.

"'I am delighted to finish my career on such a high with Celtic and I would like to thank all the fans for the great support they gave me during the past year - I was delighted to be part of such a memorable season.'
