In-form Matt O'Riley has revealed his Celtic pals have tipped Denmark to win the World Cup as he attempts to push is way into the Qatar 2022 squad.
The Denmark Under-21 cap has been an impressive addition for Ange Postecoglou since joining from MK Dons in January for a bargain £1.5million and has been mooted for a move back down south with the likes of Leicester City, Manchester United and Liverpool credited with an interest. The 21-year-old, however, has remained focused on his Celtic career and been key in the Parkhead engine room this term.
O'Riley hopes that form is enough to see him earn his first full call up for the Nations League clashes with Croatia and France when boss Kasper Hjulmand announces his squad. The midfielder hopes he is able to use the games to prove he is a worthy choice for the World Cup this winter - and admitted his Celtic teammates have big hopes for the Danes.
When asked if he felt he would receive his first full Danish call-up by Bold , he said: "I hope so, but if it doesn't happen right now, that's ok too. I still hope that I will be in the U21s or become part of the A national team. Personally, I think a lot about the World Cup, because I believe that there are opportunities for me to participate. If it happens, it happens, and if it doesn't, that's ok too. I'm glad it's being talked about as a possibility."
When quizzed on whether he felt he could displace the likes of Tottenham's Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Manchester United star Christian Eriksen, he added: "In my own head, I'm good enough to join. But I think we have a lot of good players all over the pitch. I have seen the games against France and Croatia recently, where we played really well.
"I have also spoken to some friends from Celtic and they think that Denmark has some of the best chances to win the World Cup. If those things are said, then it is very exciting to be Dane."
