Matt Hancock tipped for Strictly after quitting politics to chase reality TV fame

Disgraced politician Matt Hancock has been tipped to take on Strictly Come Dancing after quitting the Commons at the next election.

The former Health Secretary shocked the nation and fellow campmates when he appeared on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

He managed to make it all the way to third place after taking on endless Bushtucker Trials.

Mr Hancock recently announced he will not stand for the Conservatives at the next general election.

In a letter to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Mr Hancock said: "I am writing to tell you that I do not intend to stand for the Conservatives at the next general election."

With more time on his hands, there could be a chance the politician will be waltzing on Strictly next series.

The politician was stripped of the Tory whip last month after he abandoned his constituents to join ITV's I'm a Celebrity.

During his five-week absence from Parliament, Mr Hancock's team had insisted he had no intention of quitting politics.

However, his letter to the Prime Minister revealed otherwise as he stood down the Conservatives at the next general election.

The former Cabinet minister claimed he had been told by party officials on Friday - when he finally returned to Parliament - he would have the whip restored in "due course".

In his letter, Mr Hancock, who first joined Parliament in 2010, added: "But that is now not necessary."

But within minutes it emerged officers at his local Tory association had said they had "no confidence" in him as a sitting MP.

Terry Wood, president of West Suffolk Conservatives, said a vote of the officers' group happened on November 30, Mr Hancock was "not fit to represent this constituency", and the association had requested "that the Whip is not restored to him."

It was recently reported that Mr Hancock is cooking up plans to keep himself in the spotlight after his appearance on I'm A Celebrity.

His allies told the Mirror he has 'lots of irons in the fire,' including becoming a host of TV documentaries.

It has been said he earned Ãã400,000 for going into the jungle, has just published a tell-all memoir on his time in government, and is expected to get a big cheque for an exclusive deal with a national newspaper.
