Matt Hancock dealt huge blow before I'm A Celebrity - after hoping to win over fans

Matt Hancock has suffered a blow ahead of his upcoming appearance on I'm A Celebrity as bookies released odds on the Conservative MP.

The 44-year-old former Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is set to head into the jungle as a latecomer and will join the 10 celebrities, who will head into camp this weekend, later on in the series.

As the news emerged, bookmakers have already revealed the odds on how they think Mr Hancock will do amongst the star-studded line-up.

While Ladbrokes predict the politician's arrival could become the most watched episode ever, his odds in winning the competition aren't great with the bookmaker giving a 5/2 odd on him being evicted first and a 3/1 odd on him quitting the series.

Alex Apati said: "Matt Hancock has had his fair share of snaky moments in Westminster over the years, and it looks like the British public could be about to give him the ultimate payback Down Under.

"We're curious to see just how the public respond to Hancock Down Under. Will he be sent packing immediately, or will the public opt to keep him in for entertainment value? The odds suggest this one really could go either way."

Betfair added Mr Hancock is 2/1 to break the record of doing the most Bushtucker Trials.

Meanwhile Jill Scott is top of bookmakers predictions on who will be crown King or Queen of the Jungle this series.

"Jill Scott has stormed ahead in the I'm A Celebrity betting, with punters seemingly convinced the lioness will fare best in the jungle," Alex said.

The football icon currently is at 10/3, while Mike Tindall and Olivia Attwood are both at 5/1 on winning the competition.

Mr Hancock is set to join this year's stars in camp after agreeing at the last-minute to take part.

The politician is said to be hoping to show viewers the 'real him' with a stint on the hugely popular ITV reality series.

It comes after a slew of scandal and controversies for the politician.

Mr Hancock was forced to resign as Health Secretary last year after it was revealed he had been unfaithful to his wife.

Leaked CCTV showed him in a clinch with adviser Gina Coladangelo in his Whitehall office. At the time a ban on indoor social gatherings of people from different households were in place, meaning the MP also broke Covid rules during the tryst.

He’ll be the second sitting MP to take part in the gruelling competition, after fellow Tory Nadine Dorries.

Other political figures to have taken part include Stanley Johnson, father of former PM Boris, and ex-Lib Dem MP Lembit Opik.

In Mr Hancock’s constituency, Andy Drummond, deputy chairman of West Suffolk Conservative Association, said: "I’m looking forward to him eating a kangaroo’s penis."
