Matt Hancock's I'm A Celebrity appearance slammed as 'unacceptable'

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin said it was "unacceptable" Matt Hancock entered the I'm a Celebrity jungle.

Mr Hancock's arrival was a point of controversy given his rocky run as the former health secretary. Many said he was disregarding his previous actions in favour of kickstarting a television career.

Mrs Brabin joined Good Morning Britain where she was asked about her thoughts on I'm a Celebrity. The politician was an actress before she moved into politics and was quizzed on whether or not her career path was similar to Mr Hancock's.

Mrs Brabin added: "I understood on a daily basis how my constituents needed me in parliament... being their voice and to step out like that it almost like he had taken a foreign holiday. I thought it was unacceptable.

"In order for MPs to build trust they have to look like they're doing their job and obviously he couldn't answer casework while he was in the jungle."

Ben Shepard asked if it was a smart decision to use the show as an access point to the British public but Mrs Brabin said there are multiple other avenues he could have chosen.

She added: "He could run a campaign he could work with broadcasters to raise a topic. There are many other ways to raise issues that are important to you than to take a huge [paycheck] rather than increasing your own celebrity."
