Matt Hancock 'has done really well' says girlfriend Gina Coladangelo as she praises Tory MP's stint in jungle

Matt Hancock's girlfriend Gina Coladangelo has insisted that it would be "difficult not to be impressed" by the Tory MP's performance on I'm A Celebrity. . . Get Me Out Of Here!. The 45-year-old mother-of-three, whose affair with the former health secretary sparked outrage when they were caught in a clinch at the height of the Covid pandemic, praised Hancock's stint in the jungle as she headed to Australia ahead of the show's evictions getting under way.

Hancock has not had it easy since being dropped into the camp, having been stung by a scorpion and being forced to eat a camel penis and sheep vagina as he completed six Bushtucker trials. But Gina said he is "made of tough stuff" and, when asked if she had been impressed by his performance, she said: "It would be difficult not to be impressed, he has done really well."

The former aide told the Daily Mail on landing in Brisbane that she had been missing her partner and had watched the show every night to see him in action. And she confessed that it was good to see his fellow campmates being nominated for some of the trials after Hancock's long run, saying: "I think it's great everybody is having a bit of a go. I think they all seem to be getting on okay."

During his time in the jungle, Hancock confessed to falling in love with Gina when quizzed by campmates over breaching social distancing rules. They were caught kissing in his ministerial office last year, something that marked the end of Hancock's 15-year marriage to wife Martha, with whom he shares his three children.

He said: "It was really tough. I messed up and I fessed up. I resigned and it's no excuse, but I fell in love, right? That also had a lot of other consequences, obviously."

The programme has been hit by 1,100 Ofcom complaints over Hancock's appearance on the show, with the West Suffolk MP facing a backlash from some viewers after reportedly earning £400,000 for his appearance while parliament is still in session. Viewers will get the opportunity to start voting campmates out of the jungle from tomorrow (November 18).
