Matt Hancock bagged £10,000 for ITV Good Morning Britain interview where he defended I'm A Celeb fee

Matt Hancock received a staggering £10,000 sum to be interviewed on ITV's Good Morning Britain earlier this year, records have revealed.

The former health secretary appeared on the show back in January following his stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!. During the interview, the West Suffolk MP was grilled by hosts Richard Madeley, Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway over his decision to take part in the series - including the fact that he received £320,000 from ITV to go into the jungle.

"A third of a million pounds is an eye-watering amount of money - it was more than Jill Scott, who won I'm A Celebrity, was paid to go into the jungle," Susanna pointed out in the interview. "Money must have been your primary motivation, otherwise you wouldn't have got that much money."

Prior to his shock appearance on I'm A Celebrity, a spokesperson for Mr Hancock confirmed that the MP would be making donations to charity off the back of his stint in the jungle. However, GMB host Richard Madeley pointed out that Hancock ultimately gave just £10,000 of his fee to two charities.

"That's a tiny fraction of the fee - so if the money wasn't important to you, why have you held on to most of it?" Richard asked.

Hancock replied: "I didn't primarily do it for the money - I primarily did it to try to show who I really am. I'm really proud of the money that I raised for charity [...] I think £10,000 is actually a decent chunk."

The latest register of members' financial interests showed that Hancock declared a fee of £10,000 from ITV for his GMB interview. He received the payment via Shine Talent Management Limited for two hours of work, according to the entry.

Elsewhere in the register, Conservative former cabinet minister Jacob Rees-Mogg said he received £32,083.34 on March 30 from GB News for presenting a TV programme for the broadcaster. He said the hours for the work were "40 hours including preparation".
