Matt Goss surprises BBC Strictly Come Dancing viewers as he ditches his trademark hat

Matt Goss' appearance on Strictly Come Dancing came as a surprise to viewers as he ditched his trademark hat. The Bros star is among the 15 celebrities who have signed up to take part in the BBC dance contest this year.

And during Friday night's launch show (September 23), fans of the show discovered which famous face would be paired with which professional dancer for the Strictly's 20th series. The show opened with a ballroom performance from the professional dancers and the four new dancers – Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas, Coppola and Gu – were introduced with a cinematic group number.

John Legend also performed his new single All She Wanna Do during the launch show which saw Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman return to hosting duties and Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke back on the judging panel.

There was also a surprise which left Strictly fans feeling emotional as Rose Ayling-Ellis returned to the ballroom alongside Giovanni Pernice for the last dance on the show after being crowned champions of the 2021 series back in December. The pair, who won hearts for their partnership last year, performed their Viennese waltz, from week five of last year's competition to the Alicia Keys track Fallin' which incorporated the use of sign language into the routine.

During the show, viewers saw 80s music star Matt declare that he was "ready to put my heart and soul into this" after being teamed up with professional Nadiya Bychkova. He discovered who his partner would be at the O2 arena before the pair were reunited in the ballroom.

And Matt also admitted he was ready to embrace being ‘strictyfied’, stating: "I want to be rolled in sequins and glitter!" In the clip where had discovered Nadiya, who danced with Dan Walker last year, would be his pro, Matt could be seen wearing a grey fedora hat and a black sequin jacket as he did a couple of dance steps with his new dance partner.

On the launch show speaking to hosts Tess and Claudia, the 53-year-old looked dapper in a light pink suit and a white shirt. But Strictly fans couldn't help but notice he had ditched his hat to show off his hair. And it appears to have surprised them. @carrie_walsh_tweeted: "That really wasn’t a hair colour I was expecting from Matt #strictly."

@momof4westbrom commented: "Why does Matt Goss hair look like action man’s hair? Not too sure what’s gone on but he needs to know #Strictly isn’t that deep." @ernmander posted: "Matt Goss’s hair is a bit of architecture tonight. Hope he does well, fair play for taking part. #Strictly."

Others, however, were gushing over the When Will I Be Famous? singer. @carriet1234 said: "Matt Goss is still hot as ever #Strictly." Kirstie wrote: "Matt Goss. Like a fine wine….a very fine wine! #Strictly." @JakeAlex92 shared: "Matt Goss seems such a pure soul, I love him #Strictly." @MsNottledim added: "I am so here for Matt and Nadia. He seems so lovely #Strictly."
