Matt Goss' greatest ever one-liners as Bros star signs for Strictly Come Dancing

Matt Goss has been confirmed for this year's Strictly Come Dancing, having recently headed home to the UK after more than a decade in Vegas.

The singer-songwriter, 53, was announced on This Morning as the latest star to join the line-up. Matt will compete in the show against the likes of Kym Marsh, Ellie Simmonds and Kaye Adams.

He rose to fame as a member of iconic 80s pop duo Bros with his twin brother Luke. The band split in 1992 but reunited four years ago to create BBC documentary Bros: After The Screaming Stops.

The documentary offered an intimate insight into the strained relationship between the twin brothers and won fans over with Matt's dead-pan one-liners.

As he gets ready to put on his dancing shoes, we've taken a look at some of his best catchphrases.

Matt's love of darts

The duo's documentary left some viewers wondering if it was instead a mockumentary and it's no surprise, with Matt at one point revealing the strange item he cherished as a child.

"The best toy we had growing up was a dart. No dart board, just a dart," he said.

Luke explained they had a dart they would throw up into the air while trying to remain still for as long as they could. He added: "One time it unfortunately landed in Matt's rib..."

Matt replied: "Yeah, my rib. So we ran over here and my granddad pulled the dart out, gave it back to me and we carried on playing."

Petition to bring back conkers

Following the retelling of his dart injury, Matt seemed annoyed at the fact "you can't even play f***ing conkers in England.

He said: "Please can we start a petition as Bros for this ridiculous thing where you can’t even play conkers, you have to wear goggles.

"That is the biggest problem…You can’t play conkers in England."

Speaking on This Morning after the documentary aired, Matt said: "I like speaking in analogies and metaphors, it’s a great descriptive way of speaking, and I love the conkers thing.

"I still feel passionate about the conkers and not wearing goggles!"

Describing his idol woman

Speaking to Press Association last year, Matt admitted he is wary of falling in love and laughed off the suggestion he has become popular with women since his documentary aired.

He said: "I’m not fazed by beauty. You can meet a beautiful woman, but if she’s got no lining it’s still going to end up being cold.

"So you want a beautiful coat but it needs to have a good lining too."

Matt added: "As I’m getting older I’m very interested in internal beauty. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a leg man. I love hands and a nice manicure and pedicure and heels."

Bros' comeback

Matt recently returned to the UK (Luke Santilli)

The band got back together in 2017 to perform two dates in London's O2 Arena. Speaking about their return, Matt likened them to the creation of Rome.

He said: "Rome wasn’t built in a day. And f**k me that’s true… But we don’t have the time Rome had."

Only time will tell if Matt will bring his witty remarks to the glitz and glamour of Strictly.
