Matt Eberflus expected to return as Bears head coach in 2024

The Chicago Bears are expected to bring back head coach Matt Eberflus for the 2024 season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The decision comes after “extensive meetings” on Monday and Tuesday, where it sounds like general manager Ryan Poles and president Kevin Warren ultimately came to a consensus that they want to move forward with Eberflus.

In his two seasons as head coach, Eberflus has a 10-24 record, which includes franchise-worst streaks — consecutive losses (14) and consecutive home losses (10), which have since been broken.

Chicago also blew three 10-plus point leads in the fourth quarter during the 2023 season, which tied a record for most in a single season in NFL history.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise after Chicago fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko. Now, Eberflus will get a second chance to hire a competent offensive coordinator — for either Justin Fields or an incoming rookie.
