Matt Doherty reckons Tottenham will be making a big mistake if they sack Antonio Conte, who he claims is one of the 'best managers of all time'.
The Italian is believed to be nearing the exit door after an astonishing weekend rant against his players and the club.
Spurs were leading Southampton 3-1 on Saturday but imploded late on as the bottom side staged a comeback in a 3-3 draw.
Conte flipped after the final whistle and slaughtered his players in the post-match press conference.
Reports suggest he could be sacked within days but former Tottenham defender Doherty reckons it would be a bad move.
Doherty was a Tottenham player until completing a shock move to Atletico Madrid on deadline day in January.
And ahead of tomorrow’s friendly clash with Latvia, the Ireland ace offered his backing to under-fire Conte.
Doherty said: “Look, I hope he stays for a long time at Tottenham. He's an unbelievable coach, an unbelievable manager.
“He won't say anything in the Press that he won't say to his players, he's completely honest with his players and has the passion for the whole club.
“For me I hope Tottenham stick by him and hold onto him for as long as possible. He's one of the best managers of all time.”
