Matt Dawson's opinion on Harry and Meghan changed after one line in documentary

Matt Dawson has admitted his opinion changed about Harry and Meghan after hearing one specific line in their new documentary.

The England rugby legend watched the Netflix series like millions of others around the world, eager to hear about their romance and the drama that unfolded when the pair decided to abandon their royal duties in 2020.

And although he says his first impression of the documentary was that it was very "woe is me", he soon changed his mind after one sentence from Meghan turned his perspective around.

The Mirror reports that in the first 10 minutes, the Question of Sport captain wasn't expecting much from the series, until his opinion was "absolutely and completely" changed.

The moment Matt is referring to is when Meghan urges viewers to listen to their story, saying: "The past six years of my life, books are written about our story from people who I don’t know. Doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”

Matt, who won 77 caps for England, told the Express : "I just thought, do you know what, in their environment and where everyone is going to have a view of Harry because he is a bit of an adopted son to everybody after what happened in the past, I sort of thought, ok, go with it.

“We all want to know what they are like, so why don’t we just get to see what they are like. It is what it is, but at least it’s in their voice.

"We are obviously all interested in it and we are getting those little nuggets that we wouldn’t have known before, so it has definitely served its purpose. Let’s separate, you know, let’s not worry about the deal and what their life is now.

“We are interested and the nature of us and the royal family is that we want to know what is going on and we are getting told from the horse's mouth, so let’s embrace it and take it on board.”

Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Matt would be joining forces with former Question of Sport colleagues Sue Barker and Phil Tuffnell to embark on a live tour.
